collected the day after a holiday.
Please put your trash
out the morning of a collection before
9:00 a.m., and not the night before.

Trash Pick-Up
What?
Furniture, appliances, large or bulky items, or other non-household trash.
Who?
Homeowners and residents must make special arrangements for the removal
of non-ordinary trash. Homeowners
will also be assessed a special trash pick-up fee for trash that is put
out on the wrong day and has to be removed.

What?
Newspapers.
Where?
Please dispose of newspapers in the marked recepticles in the garages.
Please do not include
newspapers with your regular household trash.
Cost?
None.
Privacy
Warning
Please use caution
when disposing of private or confidential materials. There are no assurances
of privacy with respect to any trash put out for collection.
Paper refuse may be
sorted out from other garbage by our trash collectors prior to final disposal.
Accordingly, we strongly recommend the use of a document shredder or other
similar device.
Beware
of dumpster divers and other identity thieves.

What?
The City of Alexandria maintains 4 drop-off recycling centers for
the collection of aluminum and steel cans, plastic jugs and bottles, glass
bottles and jars, newspapers and magazines, office papers, cardboard,
and paperboard.

S. Whiting Street (at Tower Court)

Jones Point Park
When?
24 hours a day, 7 day a week.

Waste Drop-Off Center
What?
The City
of Alexandria does not maintain a public land fill. However, it does operate
a "Citizen
Drop-Off Center for Trash" that accepts
any combustible trash, including furniture and other large items.
This does not
include liquid waste, medical waste, hazardous waste, explosives, batteries,
or non-combustible items such as bricks, concrete, dirt, and demolition
debris.
Where?
Covanta Waste-to-Energy Facility,
5301 Eisenhower Avenue
(across the street from the Van Dorn Metro Station).
Proof of residency
in the City of Alexandria is required.
How?
City residents may make one refuse delivery
of 500 pounds or less once a week.
When?
Weekdays, 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Saturdays, 6:00 to 11:00 a.m.
Cost?
None.

What?
Cardboard, newspapers, magazines, phone books, office paper, glass, plastic
bottles, aluminum, metal cans, household and automotive batteries, and
household hazardous waste..
This does not include
explosives, ammunition, biological waste, radioactive materials, or unknown
substances.
Where?
3600 Wheeler Avenue (near the intersection of Quaker Lane and Duke Street).
Proof of residency in the City of Alexandria is required.
When?
Mondays only (except holidays), 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
